If you
have one sided lower back pain, just above the hip bone, next to the spine - read on.
I treat this type of lower back pain frequently in my
practice. These clients have typically tried massages, acupuncture and
chiropractor, specific lower back strengthening exercises or simply rested hoping
it will go away. Unfortunately, it never does.
Why and what is the cause?
There are various causes to such lower back pain, but it’s
usually due to an impact, a direct trauma to that area. For example, I’ve seen
clients who have had this type of lower back pain from skiing or car accidents,
even from falls, few have had it from giving birth. Unless you are treating it holistically
(meaning the practitioner is looking at the whole body, not just where it
hurts) it will keep coming back.
This is because the body is amazing at
compensating after an injury and trauma if it is left untreated. It has to in
order to keep us moving. Once the nervous system has figured out a new way of
moving with the lower back pain, you are putting stress, pressure somewhere
else in the body, which will lead to other problems later down the line. (I
treat those type of clients too.) More
importantly, if this compensatory pattern is left untreated and only the lower
back pain is being treated it will never go away completely. Since the
compensatory pattern is interlinking with the lower back pain. Does this make
sense?
Where you are going to compensate depends on how you are using your
body, where the weakest link in it is and what other niggles, past untreated
injuries you already have.
As I said at the beginning it really can be fixed once and
for all! J My
treatment approach is holistic. I look at body alignment, check for
compensation patterns and treat all affected areas. I will recommend specific
strengthening exercises and or stretches for lower back pain. If appropriate I
look into lifestyle and diet choices and will advise on them.
